Admissions Process


  1. The student must have a diagnosis of high-functioning autism, Asperger’s syndrome, or PDD-NOS and must be able to provide documentation of this diagnosis. Review the documentation requirements of an ASD diagnosis at the University of Alabama.
  2. The student must meet admissions requirements and be admitted separately to The University of Alabama. The UA-ACTS program has no control over or influence on University admissions decisions. Please refer to the University Undergraduate Admissions website at Admission into the program does not guarantee admission to the University and admission to the University does not guarantee admission into UA-ACTS.

Admissions Timeline

Below is a suggested timeline for completing the application process. With the exception of the February 1 deadline, these dates are not fixed.

Summer Prior to Submitting Your Application

  • Make sure you have all of the required documentation of the student’s ASD diagnosis.
  • Make sure you have an updated evaluation of the student’s cognitive skills/IQ and academic skills (within the last 2 years).

August, September, October

  • OPTIONAL: Some families choose to visit campus. You can meet with program staff, schedule a tour of campus, meet with an admissions office, tour a sample dorm room, etc.

October, November, December

  • Download and complete the application (docx), or request a copy of the application from
  • Request the teacher recommendation form be completed by one of the student’s teachers
  • Submit all required documentation to the program.
  • Complete the application for admission to the University (to be eligible for scholarships this must be completed by December 1).

November, December, January

  • Complete an in-person interview with program staff. We must have all application materials prior to the interview.

February 1st

  • All materials must be submitted, and the interview must be completed.
